Peptides and FDA 503A Compounding: Status Tracker

Discussed by advisers; not yet listedLast verified Oct 24, 2026

Where things stand

As of 2026-10-24, no peptide reviewed at FDA's July 23-24, 2026 Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee has been added to the 503A Bulks List, and FDA has posted no minutes, vote results or decision. Trade and legal press reported that the committee voted to recommend several of the seven peptides it reviewed; FDA staff briefing documents concluded the criteria weigh against all seven. An HHS/FDA 'Interim Access Policy for Compounding Using Certain Peptides' (RIN 0910-ZD94) has been under White House (OIRA) review since 2026-10-14; its contents are not public.

Questions

Did the July 2026 advisory committee vote make BPC-157 legal to compound?

No. The committee's votes are advice to FDA. A substance can be used under 503A only after FDA adds it to the 503A Bulks List through rulemaking, or under a separate FDA enforcement policy. As of 2026-10-24, neither has happened.

What is the 'interim access policy'?

It is an HHS/FDA document titled 'Interim Access Policy for Compounding Using Certain Peptides' that OIRA received on 2026-10-14. Its text has not been published. Press reports describe it as enforcement discretion for some peptides, but that is not confirmed.

What does removal from Category 2 mean?

Category 2 is FDA's list of nominated substances with significant safety concerns. Removal after a nomination is withdrawn means the substance is no longer under evaluation. It does not add the substance to the 503A Bulks List.

What did FDA's own staff conclude?

For all seven peptides discussed in July 2026, FDA's briefing documents concluded that 'a balancing of the criteria weighs against' inclusion on the 503A Bulks List.
