Lab unit converter
Mass and volume conversions on one page, with a syringe that shows what a given volume looks like in units.

Unit converter
Convert between mass units and between volume units.
1 mg = 1,000 µg = 1,000,000 ng · 1 mL = 1,000 µL

How it works
Most mistakes in lab arithmetic are unit mistakes: a factor of 1,000 between mg and µg, or between mL and µL. This page converts both and shows the syringe-unit equivalent of any volume, since insulin syringes are marked in units rather than millilitres.
Step by step
- 1 mg = 1,000 µg = 1,000,000 ng.
- 1 mL = 1,000 µL.
- On a U-100 syringe, 1 unit = 0.01 mL = 10 µL, so 100 units = 1 mL.
Frequently asked
On a U-100 syringe, 50 units. Each unit is 0.01 mL, so multiply millilitres by 100.
1,000. A microgram is one thousandth of a milligram; a nanogram is one thousandth of a microgram.
No. Syringe units are a volume marking (0.01 mL on a U-100 syringe). International units measure biological activity and vary by substance.
