What Livagen is

Livagen is a short synthetic bioregulator peptide, investigated in cell research on chromatin state and tissue-specific gene expression.

The mechanism proposed for this peptide is epigenetic rather than receptor-mediated. Across several studies in lymphocytes cultured from donors aged 75–91, Livagen was reported to activate ribosomal genes in the nucleolar organiser regions of acrocentric chromosomes, to decondense densely packed chromatin, and to release genes the authors describe as repressed by age-related condensation of euchromatic regions [3,… How it works →

Key evidence

  • Khavinson et al., Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine · 2002 · Cells (lymphocytes cultured from elderly human donors)
Livagen was reported to activate ribosomal genes, decondense pericentromeric structural heterochromatin and release genes the authors describe as repressed by age-related condensation of euchromatic regions. 3
  • Lezhava and Jokhadze, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences · 2007 · Cells (lymphocytes cultured from donors aged 80–91 and from controls aged 18–30)
Cobalt chloride increased chromosomal aberrations in cells from old donors; Livagen was associated with a lower aberration frequency (3.4 ± 0.6% versus 4.2 ± 0.7% in the control group) and with a shift of sister chromatid exchanges towards telomeric heterochromatin (12.0 ± 1.2% versus 2.8 ± 0.5% in controls). 5
  • Dzhokhadze et al., Georgian Medical News (in Russian) · 2014 · Cells (lymphocyte cultures from patients with atherosclerosis aged 80 and older, and younger controls)
Patients with atherosclerosis showed higher genomic instability on all measured parameters irrespective of age; Livagen alone and combined with cobalt ions was reported to move those indices towards control values. The authors' conclusion that this proves efficacy in preventing atherosclerosis is not supported by a cell-culture design. 6

Supplies and handling

  • Lyophilized vial
Sealed vial with the freeze-dried cake. Check the label, lot and the certificate of analysis before opening.
  • Sterile diluent
The diluent named on the product documentation. Bacteriostatic water contains benzyl alcohol; sterile water does not.
  • Graduated syringes
Sized to the volume being measured. U-100 insulin syringes are graduated in units where 100 units = 1 mL.
  • Alcohol prep pads
For wiping vial stoppers before each puncture.
  • Nitrile gloves
    Clean gloves for aseptic handling.
  • Sharps container
    Puncture-resistant container for used needles.

Storage

Handling should follow the certificate of analysis and written documentation supplied with the specific lot; no stability or handling data specific to this compound were identified in the sources reviewed. Short lyophilised peptides are generally treated as hygroscopic, light-sensitive solids whose reconstituted solutions are chemically less stable than the dry material. Amiravo does not provide preparation, reconstitution or administration instructions.

  • Lyophilized (unmixed) vials: typically stored cold and dry, away from light, as the documentation directs. Many are stable longer frozen.
  • Reconstituted vials: typically refrigerated (about 2–8 °C), protected from light and not frozen.
  • Bacteriostatic water contains benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth in multi-use vials; sterile water has no preservative.

Handling mistakes and troubleshooting

Added the wrong volume of diluent
The concentration changes, not the amount of compound in the vial. Recalculate with the volume actually added and relabel the vial.
Shook the vial and it foamed
Let it settle in the refrigerator. Foam is a sign of agitation; some peptides aggregate when shaken. Note it on the label.
The solution is cloudy or has particles
Do not use it. Cloudiness can indicate incomplete dissolution, contamination or degradation. Record the lot and contact the supplier with the certificate of analysis.
The powder cake looks melted or shrunken before reconstitution
This can indicate the vial was exposed to heat or moisture. Record the lot and condition on arrival.
Liquid sprayed back when the needle was removed
Pressure built up in the vial. Withdraw a small volume of air while adding diluent to keep pressure neutral.

Regulatory status

Status
Not approved by the FDA for any use; no human drug labeling matching this name was returned by the openFDA Drug Label API 13.
United States (FDA)
There is no approved FDA application for this peptide; an openFDA Drug Label API query returned no matching human drug labeling 13. Neither "livagen" nor "Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala" appears in any of the three categories of FDA's list of bulk drug substances nominated for use in compounding under section 503A of the FD&C Act, as updated 14 May 2026 14.
Sport (WADA)
Not named in the WADA 2026 Prohibited List 15. That absence is hedged negative evidence and not a clearance. Section S0 prohibits at all times "any pharmacological substance which is not currently approved by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use" and states that the class "covers many different substances including but not limited to" its named examples; section S2 prohibits the listed substances "and other substances with similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s)" 15.

Status varies by country and changes over time. How we describe regulatory status.

Frequently asked questions

What doses of Livagen have been studied in humans?
None that establish an amount. Livagen is not approved anywhere and we found no human studies that administered it. Amiravo does not publish community or vendor figures.
Is there an established Livagen cycle length?
No. We found no human studies that report treatment duration for Livagen.
How much bacteriostatic water should be added to a Livagen vial?
There is no compound-specific volume. The diluent volume only sets the concentration: concentration = mass in the vial ÷ volume added (for example, 10 mg in 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL). The calculator on this page shows the arithmetic for any combination.
How many units is a given amount on an insulin syringe?
On a U-100 syringe, 100 units = 1 mL. Units for an amount = amount ÷ (concentration per unit). The calculator converts any amount you enter at the concentration you choose; a unit is a volume mark, not an amount of compound.
Is Livagen FDA-approved?
Not approved — research use only. Not approved by the FDA for any use; no human drug labeling matching this name was returned by the openFDA Drug Label API 13.
